New International Academy of Systems and Cybernetics

Article Type: News, conferences and technical reports From: Kybernetes, Volume 40, Issue 5/6

On April 7, 2010 an International Academy of Systems and Cybernetic Sciences (IASCYS) was founded under auspices of the International Federation for Systems Research (IFSR). It is based in Vienna with the IFSR. The stated aims are similar to those advanced by Professor John Rose when he founded the World Organisation of (General) Systems and Cybernetics (WOSC but originally WOGSC) in 1969. The essential aim is encouragement of the holistic and interdisciplinary viewpoint of systems and cybernetics so as to span the gaps between individual traditional sciences, partly through honouring outstanding scientists in these fields and facilitating high-level interaction between them.

A first general assembly of the new body, along with a workshop conference, was held during October 25-27 at the University of Sichuan in Chengdu, China. The meeting confirmed the first 25 members of the academy representing 14 countries (Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, Poland, China, Slovenia and the USA).

The current Executive Committee of the IASCYS consists of Professor M. Mulej, Slovenia (President), Professor Jifa Gu, China (Vice-President), Professor Ranulph Glanville, Great Britain (Vice-President), and Professor Pierre Bricage, France (Secretary-General).

A note on the new body, from which these details are taken, is at (ERCIM News, 2011) and a large amount of further information can be found at: http://ifsr.ocg.at/world/node/68
