This book is published in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science/Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (Vol. 5225). It introduces a unifying approach for the analysis and design of artificial cognitive systems. Three of the editors are from the Instituto di Scienze e Tecnologie della Cognizione (CNR) and M.V. Butz is from the Universitat Würzburg, Germany.
The text provides 11 chapters to cover its main proposal to provide a basic discussion of the future and the place of the proposed “unifying frame” for dealing with artificial cognitive systems. It is a state-of-the-art survey and the publishers write that “its authors propose a foundational view of the importance of dealing with the future” of gaining some autonomy from current environmental data and of endogenously generating sensor imotor and abstract representations.
