The IIGSS is established to promote research and education in systems thinking and to encourage the development of more mature theories of, and truly successful applications of, systems research in all branches of knowledge. It was founded in 1995.
Successful events have been held globally since its foundation. These have included workshops/conferences held at: Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, USA (1985); San Marcus, Texas, USA (1997); Quighuandao, China (1998); joint conferences with WOSC: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (2002) and Wuhan, China (2007).
