Literati Network Awards for Excellence – Kybernetes 2009
The awards for excellence for papers published in Kybernetes, which has been selected once again as the official journal of World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics (WOSC), have been sent to the winning authors. A list of the award winners and their contributions are published in the journal. Nominations for these awards involved WOSC which was represented on the judging panel. An additional award was also given to recognise the valuable work of the journal's team of referees and reviewers. Many of the authors publishing in this journal have been assisted in their research and development by the WOSC Norbert Wiener Institute and those involved are again thanked for their contributions to Kybernetes.
WOSC Awards for 2008/2009
At the 14th International Congress of Cybernetics and Systems of WOSC – (Wroclaw, Poland – September 2008) it was announced that the prestigious Norbert Wiener Gold Medal was to be presented to Dr Alex M. Andrew (UK) at a future date and venue. It was subsequently decided that it would be most fitting that the presentation took place in London (UK) at the Annual Conference of the Cybernetics Society. It was scheduled for the 12 September and the presentation made by Professor Robert Vallée, the WOSC President.
The UK Cybernetes Soceity is based in London and is one of the federated members of the World Organisation.
A full report of the presentation ceremony and of the conference itself will be published in the next issues of this journal.
At the Wroclaw Congress two leading figures in the systems and cybernetics community were also honoured. Profiles of the gold medallist and the honorary fellows of WOSC will also be included in these journal issues.
Norbert Wiener Institute of Systems and Cybernetics
The WOSC Institute, together with the editorial team of Kybernetes have been engaged in commissioning a series of compilations that are to be recommended to its publishers and to the Editorial Advisory Board for publication as journal features, single or double issues. They are chosen to highlight some of the state-of-the-art research and development in systems, cybernetics and management science. In particular, they all illustrate the multi- and inter-disciplinary character of this journal's remit.
Readers are, of course, invited to contact journal with any particular topic or theme that they believe will be of value and interest when presented in this way. Details of the journal contacts are included in the inside covers of this copy.
Currently, we are compiling issues and features on:
Aspects of management science and cybernetics approaches to several business and industrial applications.
Mathematical topics and discussions that are regarded as essential to studying cybernetics, systems and management fields.
Specific topics and areas of development, e.g. intelligent systems, risk analysis, cybernetics in medicine.
We are much indebted to the guest editors who are prepared to work with us to produce issues which have made valued contributions to the literature of these endeavours.
