This is a book designed for managers and team leaders. The author has aimed it particularly at those in a technical managerial or leadership role and at those who have just taken on such a role. The book is concerned with such matters as:
- •
adapting to your new appointment in this role. engaging new staff;
- •
conducting performance appraisals;
- •
rewarding staff and training and development;
- •
managing poor performance and letting staff go;
- •
mapping and allocating people to projects, communications; and
- •
how to be an effective manager and leader.
We are told that although the book is specially targeted at managers and leaders of technical teams it should be useful to others involved with such roles in other areas. It should be noted that the author’s background is in software quality assessment and testing and the book’s case examples come from this area.
One reviewer has already said that the book seemed to be a “bit expensive” but qualifies this by reporting that “[…] it is an excellent book and well worth purchasing.”
