Mathematical Education of Engineers VI

The conference will take place from 6-9 April 2008 in the Mathematics Education Centre at Loughborough University, UK.

This conference is the first time that the SEFI (MWG) and the IMA have jointly hosted a conference on the Mathematical Education of Engineers (MEE). The SEFI (MWG) seminars take place every two years and this will be the 14th in their series. The IMA MEE conferences have been held every three years at Loughborough University and this will be the 6th in the series, although this time the conference will take place two years after the previous MEE conference.

Scientific committee

The scientific committee consists of members of the committee of the SEFI MWG and the scientific committee of previous IMA conferences on the Mathematical Education of Engineers: Les Mustoe Chair (Loughborough University), Marie Demlova (Czech Technical University), Burkhard Alpers (FH Aalen – University of Applied Sciences, Germany), Carl-Henrik Fant (Chalmers Technical University, Sweden), Stephen Hibberd (Nottingham University), Duncan Lawson (Coventry University), Brita Olsson (Finland), Carol Robinson (Loughborough University), Daniela Velichova (Slovak Technical University, Slovakia).

Themes

  • Promoting active learning. This includes integrating engineering applications, uses of technology and innovative approaches to teaching.

  • Matching assessments to learning outcomes. What difference have learning outcomes made to student learning? How does assessment relate to learning outcomes?

    Social events

Sunday evening reception – Bradgate room, Loughborough University.

Conference dinner – Tuesday, 8 April, Trent Bridge Cricket Club (provisional).

More information on this will be available nearer the time.
