American Society for Cybernetics (ASC) Conference – in tribute to Heinz von Forester
The American Society for Cybernetics 2003 Conference was held in Vienna, Austria. It revolved about the two themes.
Part I. Organising Organisations (10-12 November). Variations on Three Imperatives by Heinz von Foerster (The Institute for Systemishes, Coaching and Training).
Part II. Knowledge-Organisation-Society (13-15 November). Heinz von Foerster and the Biological Computer Laboratory (University of Vienna and Austrian Society of Cognitive Science).
This was part of a “Heinz von Foerster week” – a weeklong event co-sponsored by the ASC, the Institute for Systemisches Coaching and Training (ISCT), the University of Vienna, The Austrian Society of Cognitive Science (ASOCS).
The representative of Kybernetes at this important event was Dr A.M. Andrew, the new Director-General of the World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics (WOSC).
A full report will appear in later issues of this volume and Special Double-Issues of this journal will be dedicated to the life and work of Heinz von Foerster. The first special issues will be Nos 7/8, 2004.
