Editorial

Volume 32 of this journal has already included three Special Double Issues on the themes: Artificial Life (Nos 1/2); Systems and cybernetics: new theories and applications: (Nos 5/6); and also some new theories about Time and Space. (Nos 7/8). These issues have been characterised by their chosen themes and by the invited papers published in them and contributed by some of the world's leading cyberneticians and systemists. They were compiled by invited guest editors and by the journal's Editorial Team. Further Special Issues and features are planned for 2004 when in memoriam issues to pay tribute to Stafford Beer and to Heinz von Foerster will be published. Other issues that will provide important contributions to research and development in systems and cybernetics are being prepared. Whilst all these issues have and will continue to contain our regular sections, we will also include as many contributed papers as space will allow. To that end this current double issue is entirely devoted to our regular sections and to the papers that have been contributed and accepted in 2002/3. The 21 papers published here illustrate once again, the wide range of the interdisciplinary endeavours of our contributors.
