Editor's note on the Musès/Masani dialogue
In a letter to this journal in July 1997 Professor Masani expressed his true devotion to the work of Norbert Wiener. He wrote:
My real contribution to the Wiener legacy has at last appeared in the Phil. Trans. R. Soc. Lond. (Masani, 1997). I am enclosing a summary of a 160 page highly mathematical paper for Kybernetes.
The paper was titled "The homogeneous chaos from the standpoint of vector measures" and it appeared in the Royal Society transactions (Masani, 1997).
Professor Masani was also involved in the preparations for the "Norbert Wiener Centenary Congress, 1994", which was reviewed by Dr Charles Musès (Musès, 1998). He was also to take part in the "Legacy of Norbert Wiener: A Centennial Symposium" (1997). In Dr Musès' review he included a little known paper by Wiener, which had been based on a lecture given in Naples, Italy in 1962. This intrigued Masani who wrote to this journal (Masani, 1998), with, as he put it "a few comments to keep the record straight". The reprinted paper was not in the "Collected Works" and Masani gave it an immediate listing (65d) in the "Consolidated Wiener Bibliography", since it was first published in 1965 [1]. He was, however, at pains to point out that this lecture was a consolidation of Wiener's earlier paper "My connection with cybernetics" (58f).
Dr Musès was particularly pleased that the record had been corrected and the new paper published.
