This new WIT Press volume contains papers originally presented at the Third International Conference on Management Information Systems (MIS) incorporating GIS and Remote Sensing, held in Halkidiki, Greece from 24th to 26th April, 2002.

Management Information Systems have rapidly spread throughout a whole range of activities and are now an integral part of modern life. Presenting the state-of-the-art in a variety of applications ranging from engineering to business and the economy, this book also includes a number of papers dealing with improved human machine interface capabilities and, in particular, the emergence of virtual reality as a tool for MIS applications.

Over forty contributions are included and these cover specific topics within environmental management, economic development management, application of GIS, modelling issues, remote sensing, integrated modelling and management, and virtual reality.

The book has seven sections and some of the papers contributed are included as follows:

Section 1: Environmental Management – An innovative real time environmental management system M. Alborg, C Kenny, A. Koumpis and A. Vontas; Spatial analysis of impacts and potentialities for leisure activities. Bases for territorial ordination of tourism uses I. De Aranzabal, P. Aguilera, A. Rescia, M.F. Schmitz and F.D. Pineda; Stochastic integer programming analysis for wastewater treatment plant design E. M.-Y. Wu; Determining the geographical variation in Danish farming I.T. Kristensen and B.M.
