No one can disagree with the statement that the software process is in need of improvement. Any book therefore that can offer any hope of improvement is indeed very welcome. The creation of quality software on time and within budget has been a major problem facing the software industry for several decades. The authors of this new book believe that consideration of software development and maintenance as an engineering discipline to control the development process can help alleviate these obstacles. What the compilers of this text have done is to focus on the best practices for software process improvement (SPI) and on the related international standards. In consequence it provides a valuable guide and reference.
It is a collection of original and republished papers that the publishers say, provide a significant survey on the use of SPI and the software process assessment (SPA) as practiced by companies such as Lockheen Martin, Siemens, and Hewlett Packard
