Last years PREP 2001 is reported to have been an overwhelming success, The organisers claim that it ''proved that in the 21st Century around 180 students from UK universities can play hard, as well as present their research''. Their subjects for presentation were in the fields of: Photonics, Electronics, Communications and Software. This is a UK initiative to get postgraduates to come together; last years was held at Keele University, with previous conferences in Manchester and Nottingham. Details of PREP 2002 are now available from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC).*
One aim of the 2001 event was to incorporate a software technologies track to widen the scope of the conference. It also provided students with an opportunity to gain an insight into careers information. This was reflected in the exhibition where 12 exhibitors displayed their wares in what was called an "Industrial Fair". These were: The Institute of Physics, Samsung, Phillips, ECI Postgraduate Jobs, IEE, IEEE, ECM. Selection Ltd., Agilent Technologies, Arup, BT Exact, MK Worldwide and Zetex.
Companies provided prizes that students competed for in the 72 presentations and 54 poster presentations.
PREP 2002 was on the 17–19 April 2002 at the East Midlands Conference Centre, University of Nottingham UK.
