WOSC Sponsored Congresses and Conferences
WOSC was represented at numerous congresses and conferences during the last year. The reports from the major events have been published in this section. Both our President Professor Stafford Beer and Director-General Professor Robert Vallée have represented the organization at many different venues worldwide. We would wish to express our gratitude to them for the time and effort that they have expended on behalf of the Federation in their honorary roles.
The organisation also appreciates the work of the Directors who have carried out their individual duties to the benefit of the organisation, They too have represented WOSC at events worldwide, presenting papers and addressing meetings and many of these have been included in Kybernetes which is the official journal of WOSC; and whose Editor-in-Chief is also Director of WOSC's Norbert Wiener Institute of Systems and Cybernetics.

It was reported in Kybernetes Vol. 30 Nos 9/10, 2001 that Professor Stafford Beer, the World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetes President gave the keynote address to the First International Conference on Systemic Management in Vienna, Austria on the ist May 2001. He considered vital aspects of viability with reference to the Viable System Model (VSM).
This address was to have been published in the 30th Birthday Issue of this journal but due to copyright difficulties it could not be included as promised. It has, however, been published by the conference organisers in the proceedings of the event.
For compleness and for the information of our readers the abstract of the address is given here:
