Invitation to the World Congress of the Systems Sciences/ISSS 2000, Toronto, Canada - 16-22 July 2000

We cordially invite you to begin making plans now for a very special occasion - a once-in-a-millennium "World Congress of the Systems Sciences," in conjunction with the 4th Annual Meeting of the ISSS.

As you can see from the announcements[1] the World Congress/ISSS Meeting will be held at Ryerson Polytechnic University in downtown Toronto from 16-22 July 2000. Some 20 other organizations will share the limelight as "co-hosts" and co-presenters.

Many special events are planned for this occasion: a welcoming reception and concert, keynote speeches by world-renowned systems scientists, special forums and symposia, poster displays, mini-courses and workshops on systems-related topics, a lecture by a distinguished public figure and, not least, remote participation by several other countries via video and the Internet.

However, we will need your help to make all of this happen. This is a very ambitious event for a relatively small all-volunteer organization, and it will be costly to produce. We have had some modest success in raising grant money to help with our organizing costs. But we also need a strong - and timely - show of support from our members and friends in the form of a significant increase in the number of registrants compared to the last two years. Otherwise, we may be required to scale back our plans. We urge you to attend this landmark event, and we especially urge you to help out by pre-registering as early as possible but no later than 1 April 2000[2].

On behalf of our co-hosts, our SIG Chairs and our Organizing and Program Committees, I invite you to come to Toronto for the World Congress/ISSS 2000.
