Kybernetes - The International Journal of Systems & Cybernetics - Norbert Wiener Award 2000 and the "Highly Commended" Awards

The Norbert Wiener Award for Excellence is named in memoriam and in recognition of the scientist who is regarded, as all readers will know, as the originator of the interscientific discipline of cybernetics. It will be recalled that in 1994 Kybernetes celebrated the centenary of his birth (see the Special issue Kybernetes, Vol. 23 No. 6/7, 1994). This award is regarded in the cybernetics and systems communities as one of the most prestigious honours that an author of a journal paper could receive. To this end the Editorial Team of Kybernetes has appointed a panel of judges which is representative of these two fields of endeavour. The panel will review all the contending contributions and make their recommendations. This year the panel is again headed by Professor Robert VallÅe, the director-general of the World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics. As a result of their extensive reviews of all contributed papers and the views of those readers who have expressed their own opinions, the final nominations will be sent to the Literati Club, the sponsors of the awards. The awards are:

  1. 1.

The Norbert Wiener Award - for an outstanding contribution to Kybernetes, ol. 28 Nos. 1-9, 1999.

  2. 2.

Highly Commended Awards - for contributions to Kybernetes, Vol. 28, that are regarded as being of a very high standard of importance.

The "Awards for Excellence 2000" ceremony, sponsored by the Literati Club, will be held on 14 April 2000.
