Professor Pesi Rustom Masani

Keywords Obituary, Cybernetics

Dr Pesi Masani, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh, USA, died on October 15, 1999, at the age of 80.

He had a very close association with this journal and we have been most appreciative of his support and in particular of the many contributions he has made by way of papers and articles over many years.

The editorial team of Kybernetes and, we are sure, the readers of this journal send their condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Volume 32 Number 5, October 1999 of the University Times, the faculty and staff newspaper of the University of Pittsburgh, includes details of his academic vita and of the contributions he made to mathematics, cybernetics, philosophy, of theology, politics, history and of his many interests. This is available on: http://www.pitt.edu/utimes/issues/991028/07.htm

Editor's note: Subject to the necessary permission, it is hoped to publish three papers that Professor Masani sent to this journal in October 1999, together with a tribute to his life's contribution to systems and cybernetics.
