Since its inception in 1982, the Journal of Property Investment & Finance has evolved into one of the leading academic journal in the field of real estate and property. Originally the journal was very UK orientated with nearly all the contributions coming from these shores. Today, we are a recognised international journal with contribution form all over the world. In this issue we have papers from England, Scotland, Italy, the USA and Singapore. This is not unrepresentative of a normal issue and I am in constant e-mail contact with contributors from all around the globe. Yet what is particularly interesting is that as the journal has become more international it has become apparent, from the nature of the papers published, that there is now a world consensus on the issues that affect our profession. Obviously, there will always be parochial areas of study and work, but the academic community is now well connected and functioning on a global scale. Hopefully the Journal of Property Investment & Finance in all its guises has helped oil the wheels of this evolution.
Originally the journal was called the Journal of Valuation, in 1990 it became the Journal of Property Valuation & Investment and in 1999 it merged with the Journal of Property Finance, to become the Journal of Property Investment & Finance.
