The Asian Real Estate Society (AsRES) held its Fifth Annual Conference from 26-30 July, 2000 in Beijing, China (co-sponsored by AREUEA, The American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association).

The conference provided a forum for discussion and exchange across the broad spectrum of real estate and urban economics topics of interest to both academics and practitioners. Topics included: debt and equity markets, land and property markets, investment, brokerage, valuation, primary/secondary mortgage markets, education, policy and regulations. Panel discussions included housing dynamics, emerging markets, and behavior patterns of players in real estate markets. The conference offered US$3,000 for the best paper and US$1,000 for the second best paper presented at the meeting.

The conference was held at the Great Wall Sheraton Hotel, one of the best 5-star hotels in Beijing. Beijing is the political, commercial and cultural center of China. The conference organizers arranged various half-day and one-day sightseeing tours in Beijing.
