Welcome to the first issue of the newly titled Journal of Property Investment & Finance. In this journal, we have brought together the best traditions from the Journal of Property Valuation & Investment and the Journal of Property Finance. In each issue we will present applied papers of the highest academic calibre, together with a Practice Briefing section dealing with important pragmatic issues. Each volume will also include Legal Updates on Landlord and Tenant, Compulsory Purchase, Rent Review and Lease Renewal; Information on the latest Internet sites; Book Reviews and an annual Finance Briefing. Our intention is to publish "cutting edge" papers and features to help our readership keep abreast of the ever-evolving world of Property Finance and Investment.

The journal will continue to appear five times a year. It will also be available online via MCB's Web site, complete with access to the archives. In addition we will also be publishing an annual cumulative index of all the MCB property titles. This year also sees the introduction of the joint Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and MCB University Press, Internet Research Register, sponsored by Journal of Property Investment & Finance.

The Internet Research Register will provide readers with access to constantly updated information on all real estate research being undertaken in the public domain both in the UK and internationally. The Register will help develop networks between researchers in particular areas of research and alert the corporate community to new areas for application and development.

The Register will be delivered exclusively via the Internet and will be "live" in content. All current "academic" and "practice" research and research completed in the previous six months will be included. It will include research in development, investment, management, valuation and appraisal, rating, land use and planning, finance and property law. All entries will be validated and monitored by Stephen Brown of RICS in the role of Internet Research Register Editor.

We very much hope that the Journal of Property Investment & Finance will continue to be an invaluable source of information for our readership in both the academic and practice communities. It has always been our intention to provide a forum for the property profession to develop and share ideas in property investment and finance. We believe that the new Journal of Property Investment & Finance builds on the reputation of its predecessors and that, with the enhancements provided as part of the subscription, it provides an unparalleled resource in real estate research.
