Yiannis Gabriel is Professor in Organizational Theory, School of Management, Imperial College, London, having taught previously at Thames Polytechnic and Bath University. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, London, where he also carried out post-graduate studies in industrial sociology. He has a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. His main research interests are in organizational and psychoanalytic theories, consumer studies, storytelling, folklore and culture. Gabriel is author of Freud and Society, Working Lives in Catering (both Routledge) and Organizations in Depth (Sage), and co-author of Organizing and Organizations and The Unmanageable Consumer: Contemporary Consumption and Its Fragmentation and Experiencing Organizations (both Sage). His latest book, Storytelling in Organizations, was published by Oxford University Press in 2000. Other publications include articles on computer folklore, organizational nostalgia, chaos and complexity in organizations, fantasies of organizational members about their leaders, organizational insults and research methodology using stories and narratives. He is currently working on an edited collection inspired by the narrative tradition. He has served as Editor of the journal Management Learning and is Associate Editor of Human Relations.
Dr Adrian N. Carr currently occupies the foundation position of Principal Research Fellow in the School of Applied Social and Human Sciences at the University of Western Sydney in Australia, where he is also an Associate Professor. Dr Carr has over 200 refereed papers that have appeared in a wide range of journals, books and other publications. He is currently a board member of Journal of Management Development: Administrative Theory & Praxis; Global Business & Economics Review (founding editorial member); Policy, Organisation and Society; Journal of Organizational Change Management; Radical Psychology; A Journal of Psychology, Politics and Radicalism (founding co-editor); and Journal of Critical Postmodern Organization Science (TAMARA). He has been the recipient of a number of scholarships and awards including Emerald Awards for Research Excellence in 2001 and 2002.
