Call for papers for Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management

Submissions are invited for a QRAM special issue exploring the ways in which qualitative and quantitative research methods can be combined to advance our understanding of accounting, management and organizations. We are seeking papers covering a range of issues within this broad domain, potentially including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Empirical research that explicitly combines qualitative and quantitative methods;

  • Empirical research (either completed or potential) that exemplifies the application of qualitative (quantitative) methods in areas conventionally studied using quantitative (qualitative) methods with a view to opening up mixed method opportunities within established research domains;

  • Examination of the challenges in conducting empirical research that combines qualitative and quantitative methods;

  • Examination of specific threats to validity and reliability in mixed method research design and analysis;

  • Conventions (or requirements) for the disclosure of attributes of research design and analysis to convey scientific rigour in research papers adopting mixed methods at the interface of accounting and management;

  • Underexploited data sources for mixed method qualitative and quantitative research in accounting; and

  • Reflections (including provocative ones) on limitations of research studies using qualitative or quantitative methods, along with development of ideas as to how combined methods might overcome some of these limitations.

Consistent with QRAM's editorial policy, we invite contributions from a range of theoretical or epistemological positions. Papers considered for this special issue should explicitly engage with practical and methodological aspects of research.

Submission process

Submissions are due by 15 February 2010. Authors are encouraged to contact the Guest Editors in advance to discuss their proposed topics.

Manuscripts should be prepared and submitted in accordance with QRAM guidelines (see http://info.emeraldinsight.com/products/journals/author_guidelines.htm?id=qram) and will be subject to QRAM's regular double-blind review process.
