Although Gandhi said these words in the first half of the last century, they still seem to be relevant. With the growing emphasis on reduction in CO2 emissions and ways to tackle global warming, it is just as important as ever to look at ways to meet the needs for our growth and new infrastructure development in a sustainable manner. The Construction sector has embarked on a series of high profile initiatives in an attempt to address global concerns on environment, energy efficiency, waste minimisation and reduction of carbon footprint. With challenges of global warming, climate change and increasing cost of fuel, a serious rethinking in the construction is required to ensure that we can meet our future needs without damaging the environment. This special issue call for the journal of Construction Innovation deals with research that addresses these global challenges.
High quality papers are invited for consideration in this special issue. The aim of this special issue is to provide researchers and practitioners with the latest knowledge, theories, practice, issues and challenges facing the construction sector. The topics covered include, but are not limited to, the following themes:

Adaptation and resilience to climate change
- •
Energy efficiency in construction
- •
Reducing the carbon footprint of new and existing buildings
- •
Waste minimisation in construction
- •
Green supply chain in construction (including procurement and legal issues)
- •
Sustainability optimisation (policies, processes, people)
- •
Sustainable building design practices and technologies (infrastructure projects)
- •
Sustainability drivers (socio-political/economic etc.).
