Background Information

Journal of Applied Accounting Research seeks to encourage a research agenda which allows academics and practitioners to work together to provide pragmatic and theoretically robust solutions to substantive practical problems. The journal is keen to encourage academic research articles that make research accessible and useful to practitioners.

Details

Accounting and management control are major concerns for organisations of all types. Management control, including management accounting, uses a variety of problematics and methodologies to help organisations to achieve their objectives. The aim of this special issue is to seek papers from a range of traditional and/or interdisciplinary perspectives that will contribute to the existing theoretical literature, while also responding to calls for greater practical relevance of our research.

Coverage includes, but is not limited to:

  • The impact of IFRS on management accounting and control;

  • The relation between customer values or brand values and management control;

  • The impact of governance and management tools on control;

  • The impact of management information systems on control;

  • Information systems and integration of accounting systems;

  • Stock evaluation and determining the cost of under-activity;

  • Balanced scorecard and systems of performance measurement;

  • Cross-cultural impacts on performance of different systems of accounting and control;

  • Environment and management control; and

  • The use of management control in inter-organisational relations.

We would welcome papers from a range of methodological perspectives adopting positivist or interpretivist approaches. We specifically welcome papers that are co-authored by a mixed team of practitioners and researchers. This would add to the richness of the contributions engaging with joint research across the practice- academe divide.
