ACAL PJT launches low-cost SCARA Robots for automated assembly

ACAL TC's Precision Joining Technologies (PJT) Division announces the launch of a new series of robots for automated assembly which set new benchmarks for versatility, ease of use and low capital cost.

The Janome JSR4400N series (Figure 3) of high-speed, horizontal, multi-joint Selective Compliant Articulated Robot Arm (SCARA) robots eliminates the high cost of hard automation and increases productivity in a wide range of assembly applications, including those with limited space.

For maximum versatility and ease of set-up, memory cards store a library of 100 programmes with instructions for a range of tasks such as screw tightening, dispensing and soldering. The JSR4400N series robots can be programmed directly or remotely via external interfaces to RS232C, local area networks and twisted pair (TP), and can store up to 6,000 individual data points.

The combination of a five-phase pulse stepping motor with integrated micro- step drive circuitry reduces power consumption and eliminates the need for additional hardware. This allows the JSR4400N robots to be used in applications where space is limited.

ACAL PJT's General Manager, Dave Fawcett, commented, “These multi- functional and versatile robots can drive significant savings across a wide range of automated assembly tasks which can easily recoup their low initial investment.”

Available in two, three or four axis versions, the high-accuracy, high-speed JSR4400N robots are available and are being demonstrated at ACAL PJT's new applications laboratory in Leicester, UK.
