Jones, who co-founded CRS Robotics in 1983, is the first Canadian to assume the Association's presidency. CRS Robotics was acquired by Thermo Electron Corporation in 2002. He succeedsÅke Lindqvist, Group Vice President, Robotic Products and Automation N.A. of ABB, Inc. (Auburn Hills, MI), who served as RIA President for the 2004 and 2005 terms. Lindqvist remains on the RIA Board as Past President.

Jones says, “I am proud to serve the RIA membership and the robotics Industry in the capacity of president. The Association has a strong record of commitment to the North American robotics and automation industry, which it represents.”

Regarding the current status of the industry, Jones comments, “The North American robotics industry has followed two consecutive years of solid double-digit growth with an absolutely explosive first nine months of 2005, with sales 30% over the same period in 2004. It is exciting to be leading the Association in the coming year during such a robust time for the industry.”

Jones has been on the RIA Board of Directors since 1999, and was most recently the RIA First Vice President and the three-term Chairman of the New Markets Committee.

As for his platform for the coming year, Jones says, “RIA will continue to provide outstanding services to its members. Its conferences and committee work will add value by educating and supporting the common interests of the membership and the industry at large. RIA's involvement in standards development will promote safety and competitive efficiency in the use of robotics. New initiatives will encourage market development among the association membership with the goal of building a stronger industry and a larger association.” Jones further believes, “The RIA will grow as the influence of robotic automation spreads through more industries and more sectors of the economy.”
