Bosch has launched a new PC-based robot handling and special purpose machine control - the Rho4 - which combines the flexibility of the PC with the functional advantages of motion control (see Plate 1).
The control is able to support 24 axes and up to 16 kinematics in parallel, enabling the Rho4 to control a number of independently configured machines, each executing its own user programs.

The Rho4 is operated by using either a hand-held programming device or by using the PC based operator interface. For graphic or image-guided operation, a touch screen version is also available.
Among the many advantages offered by the new control are a number of safety features. Although the standard PC runs on the Windows NT or Windows 95 operating systems, the control functions run separately under the real-time operating system VxWorks. This means that, should the Windows operating system fail, all of the control functions will remain in operation.
The Rho4 is ideal for all kinds of machine-computer engineering, including assembly, spot welding, palletising, painting, packing and loading - as well as special purpose applications such as the control of injection moulding and sealant application machines. To find out more about how Rho4 might be able to assist your business contact Bosch on 0116 281 4488.
The Rho4 will be on display at the Drives and Controls exhibition on stand G30.
