BJB uses Stäubli robots for light fitting assembly
Keywords: Robots, Technology
French company Stäubli Faverges produces quick and precise robots suitable for any size of business. German light fitting manufacturer BJB has enhanced its competitive edge thanks to its ADS automatic component wiring concept for use with the StÌubli robots. The ADS concept is a flexible, modular system combining direct wiring of standard components with the efficiency of StÌubli robots.
BJB's initial approach was to adapt its light fitting components to tested and approved "direct wiring" technology. This enabled the company to have an assembly line equipped with StÌubli robots and conveyors for rapid and accurate assembly. Lamp ballasts, fuse holders and supply terminals are some components whose assembly can be optimised using BJB automated lines.
In the past, component wiring was performed manually. Thanks to the introduction of robots, the company has enhanced competitiveness and reduced product costs while improving quality. Linear component assembly is possible. BJB's 13 six-axis robots operate with high speeds and acceleration, excellent repeatability, precise and rapid trajectories. The arm, fully enclosed inside a sealed housing, isolates components from the industrial environment and offers a high degree of protection (see Plate 1).
Components which were previously difficult to reach pose no problems for the robot. The wires can be grabbed horizontally, vertically or at 90°. Wiring is highly accurate and performed at high speed, even in a very restricted space.

The modular transport system's conveyors take the components from the preparation zone to the lamp wiring and test zone before carrying them to the end of the production line. The built-in test system automatically checks the finished products. All verification data are recorded and stored. Thanks to the flexibility of the modular system and its off-line programming features, BJB provides tailor-made solutions for its customers' needs.
