In March, Motoman, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yaskawa Electric America (YEA), officially opened a joint Yaskawa/ Motoman 28,000 sq ft. facility in Chandler, Arizona, just outside Phoenix, to further both companies' rapid growth in the semiconductor, disk media, and flat panel display industries. Motoman will focus on its automation solutions for the semiconductor and electronics industries, and will offer sales and service for the entire Motoman product line.
The new facility will address sales, application engineering, training, customer support, and system deployment responsibilities. Motoman is targeting sales exceeding $50 million through this facility by the year 2001.
Most of Motoman's customers for the semiconductor and electronics industries are located in the Western states. "On thorough evaluation of key factors such as customer access, technical workforce availability, and all related costs, the Phoenix area was the clear winner to expand our leadership in semiconductor and electronic automation solutions," said Randy Graves, Director of Sales, SuperMechatronics Team.
Motoman's SuperMechatronics solutions for semiconductor handling include ultra-clean vacuum and atmospheric robotic arms; specially designed wafer process motors; multi-axis, high-speed controllers specifically designed for vertical integration of OEM wafer process tools and material handling applications; and six-axis Class 1 through Class 1000 robotic arms to handle wafers, wafer cassettes, flat panel displays, etc. in front end semiconductor applications, plus a diverse product line-up for back end semiconductor applications.
