Article Type: Editorial From: Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, Volume 60, Issue 4

In February, we were fortunate to be able to attend the 12th ICIS World Base Oils Conference in London. At this meeting over 400 delegates from 46 different countries were present to hear, from experts in the field, the latest situation regarding current and future base oil developments. This updating on our basic lubricant raw material was especially valuable as base oils from different sources are being used around the world. We are seeing both a change in the major suppliers and refineries but also changes in the type of base oils being used in finished lubricants. The increasing use of Groups 2 and 3 products are very relevant to any researchers looking at new additive technology so that care can be taken to ensure that developments are in line with future supply qualities.

This type of conference, organised by ICIS in various parts of the world throughout the year, is very worthwhile attending both to keep abreast of current supply situations but also keep the researcher in touch with the real world problems. Try to attend if it fits in with your schedule.

In this issue, we are pleased to present papers representing a cross-section of the varied type of research work in progress in our field of interest.

Included are two papers from Turkey with others from India, Portugal, Malaysia and China.

As always your feedback will be welcomed.
