SRB, a division of Wyko Industrial Services, has, in addition to its complete range of standard production bearings, the ability to design and manufacture additional and special features to the split bearing within their range. These include extra clearance bearings, non-standard cast iron, non-standard bore sizes and special seal configurations, all of which can be manufactured and delivered to the customer with only short lead times.
This was illustrated recently when Foster Yeoman contacted Wyko's Inverness office. Their Glensandar Quarry is quite a remote coastal site in Scotland and Foster Yeoman have a requirement for non-standard seal configurations in an application because it is exposed to severe weather conditions. They specifically need to prevent the precipitation ingress that is common when in close proximity to salt water. Foster Yeoman turned to SRB seeking a cost-effective solution available within an acceptable lead-time. SRB designed, manufactured and supplied a suitable unit within three weeks. The design incorporated a split James Walker Seal secured by a split retaining plate. An additional benefit to this design is that it enables the seal to be changed without disturbing other components.
Foster Yeoman use a number of split bearings in order to simplify the mounting and dismounting procedures which can be costly in terms of down time. SRB, in having the flexibility of manufacture to provide such products on short lead times, has enabled Foster Yeoman to confidently specify both the brand and the design for future projects.
