Following the success of SKF's SYSTEM 24 automatic lubrication system which provides a "fit and forget" controlled lubrication between pre-determined maintenance intervals, the company has extended the product range by introducing a "mini" cartridge for use where space is limited. In addition, the new cartridge size is ideal when smaller bearings are being used or when a lower purge may be required (see Plate 3).

Also available from SKF is a software program for selection and application of SYSTEM 24 which advises the most appropriate version and the correct dial setting for the cartridge.

Designated DialSet, the floppy disk program is free of charge and is suitable for PCs working with Windows 3.1 or later versions. It is able to determine, through simple dialogue input, whether the new "mini" LAGD 60 cartridge, a 35 per cent shorter 60 ml version of the standard 125 ml SYSTEM 24 cartridge, has the capacity to suit maintenance intervals. In addition, it will deduce the grease purge setting for the system according to bearing size, type and operating conditions. The operator only then needs to select the appropriate cartridge and adjust the SYSTEM 24 dial setting device to the calculated value displayed.
