Two major Brazilian consortia have licensed IDEAL, the International Digital Electronic Access Library, making this pioneering Web-based resource available for the first time in Brazil. The consortia are CAPES (Coordenacão de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior) and ProBE/FAPESP (Fundacão de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo).

Establishing extensive access to IDEAL, these licenses deliver the entire Academic Press online collection of 176 scientific, technical and medical journals to 78 institutions throughout Brazil.

Initiated in 1951, CAPES is Brazil's higher-education support agency, associated with the federal Ministry of Education. CAPES designs and implements policies for the Brazilian graduate-study system and supports higher-education teaching and scientific research. More information about CAPES appears at http://www.capes.gov.br/ .

ProBE offers access to the most relevant scientific titles to five academic institutions, one health-oriented information centre (BIREME/PAHO/WHO), and 14 research institutes in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Through the support of the FAPESP, the ProBE/FAPESP consortium is delivering access to IDEAL to six institutions. Details about the ProBE/FAPESP consortium appear at http://www.probe.br
