New discussion list in Spanish

The Mexican Circle of Progressive Studies in Librarianship has created a new progressive librarianship discussion list in Spanish, called Bibliotecarios Progresistas. The list has four main objectives, which are:
- 1.
to support democratic library structures and question the trend of turning libraries into markets of information;
- 2.
facilitate a forum for the development of issues in librarianship, linking closely with social, political, economic and cultural problems;
- 3.
foster organisation among activist libraries and other library workers of resistance social movements; and
- 4.
support acts of resistance against antid-emocratic library administration practices and trends, mainly in Latin America.
The list is primarily devoted to the discussion of situations within Latin America, although it is expected also to include events of an international nature. There are currently very few tools in Spanish dealing with progressive or alternative librarianship matters, which makes this an important resource.
The Mexican Circle of Progressive Studies in Librarianship was founded to promote the participation of the Mexican library community in the political and social aspects of librarianship.
