The Combined Regions, formerly Unity Co-operative Council, and Talis Information Limited have launched a new partnership to develop the Unity database as a new Web-based service, UNITYweb.
The Combined Regions comprises five of the seven English Regional Library Systems, the British Library, The National Library of Scotland, An Chomhairle Leabharlanna (the Library Council of Ireland), Cydfenthyca Cymru (Interlending Wales) and Share the Vision. It produces Unity, the Combined Regions Database, which merges the catalogues of over 450 libraries.
Talis Information Limited is a leading supplier of library and information systems and services in the UK. It delivers the current Unity service to over 200 library organisations throughout the UK and Ireland.
UNITYweb will be a resource discovery and sharing tool for the UK and Ireland. It will provide access, for both service staff and the public, to over 10 million bibliographic records and over 35 million library holdings. Users will benefit from interoperability, enabling connection with other systems for searching and interlending of a wide range of materials. There will be accessibility for visually impaired people and an interlending function for library staff.
