Partnership between British and Canadian National Libraries for the Blind

Keywords: Library services, Blind people, Partnering, United Kingdom

The British and Canadian National Libraries for the Blind have launched a partnership which will improve library services for visually impaired readers both in the UK and in Canada.

The partnership will include an interlending agreement which will enable readers from both countries to select books from either collection. There will be an exchange of electronic archives, which will enable each library to become the "local printer" for the other library's stock. The two libraries will work together through electronic services to make available out of copyright books and also develop complementary linked web sites.

The partnership has been welcomed in both countries with the National Library for the Blind (NLB) and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) planning future collaborations. It is hoped these will include libraries for the blind in other countries creating "libraries without walls" world-wide.
