This issue consists of one survey paper and three research papers. Survey articles are an important part of advancing knowledge. The journal has dedicated to have a survey section in each issue whenever possible. In this issue, the survey paper in on the topic of graph indexing and querying. Graph structures have been used extensively in computer science in general, and have many applications on the internet, such as social network and semantic web. This survey paper, written by Sherif Sakr and Ghazi Al-Naymat, discusses various query processing and indexing techniques.

The three research papers included in this issue covers various aspects of XML. The first research paper, written by Ahmed A. Radwan, Awny Sayed, and Mohamed M. Abdallah from Egypt, describes on XML content-based retrieval systems, particularly the use of feedback mechanism. The second research paper, written by Brian Tripney, Christopher Foley, Richard Gourlay, and John Wilson from the UK, also focuses on XML, particularly in the context of XML peer-based systems, in which they propose an efficient data representation.

The last paper, written by Imam Machdi, ToshiyukiAmagasa, and Hiroyuki Kitagawa from Japan, presents a thorough model of parallel twig join query processing, which is also an XML based system. This paper has been selected from the 11th International Conference on information integration and web-based applications and services (2009) which was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in December 2009. The initial conference version of the papers has been substantially extended to include thorough discussions on related work and comprehensive performance evaluation.
