1st EASN Association Workshop on Aerostructures

1st EASN Association Workshop on Aerostructures

Article Type: Guest editorial From: International Journal of Structural Integrity, Volume 2, Issue 4

Almost three years have passed since the European Aeronautics Science Network (EASN) was founded as an independent European Association for coordinating and supporting the interests of the European universities and facilitate academia to perform funded research. One of the main tasks of EASN is to promote the dissemination of knowledge, as well as to support the transfer of innovation and new technologies originating from academic research to the industry. In this context, the EASN Association organised on October 7-8, 2010 a workshop in Paris, dedicated to the technological area of aerostructures. This has been the first of a series of workshops which will follow and aim to cover all technological areas in Aeronautics. The workshop was kindly hosted by EADS Innovation Works at its premises in Suresnes. Its aim has been to offer its participants a forum to present the latest achievements in the area of aerostructures along with innovative ideas for future research.

In this frame, scientific and technological results from 13 out of 14 FP aerostructures related projects in progress at the time of the conference, including the Maximus IP. A number of about 120 participants from academia, research organisations and industry attended the workshop. The present special issue of the International Journal of Structural Integrity includes a selection of five papers presented in a shorter version at the workshop. They are representative of the high-scientific quality and technological merit of aeronautics research carried out in Europe.

Hoping that you will share this view.
