Royal Roads University to open environmental education centre

Royal Roads University will become the home of the Robert Bateman Art and Environmental Education Centre, the celebrated wildlife artist and environmentalist Robert Bateman and his wife, photographer Birgit Freybe Bateman, announced recently. The $10 million centre will house an extensive collection of Robert Bateman's original artwork and prints and will also become the home of the Canadian Centre for Environmental Education, which will offer education, training, professional development and accreditation for members of the environmental professions. An architectural design competition will be held to design the new centre, for which construction is expected to get underway in late 2008 or early 2009, with the building opening in 2010.
