Special issue on innovations in fashion retailing and distribution

Article Type: Call for papers From: International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management, Volume 39, Issue 10

Over six years have elapsed since the last special issue ``Focusing on fashion'', Vol. 33 No. 4. Since then, much has changed: the global financial crisis pre-empted recession in Europe and the USA, while the BRIC economies have flourished; media exposés have put environmental and social responsibility centre stage; and new digital platforms have fuelled the growth of marketing and retailing online. However, much remains the same; the fashion sector remains highly internationalised, intensely marketing-oriented, unfailingly creative and dynamically evolving.

This special issue of the International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management will explore the contemporary international fashion and textile sector by inviting research investigating recent innovations and developments specific thereto. In accordance with the remit of the journal, papers are invited to cover all areas of fashion and textile retail and distribution: sourcing and logistics; marketing and branding; retailing on- and off-line; consumer behaviour and CSR issues. Possible topics may include, but are not restricted to:

  • Developments in global fashion and textile sourcing, manufacturing and logistics.

  • Corporate strategies for, and consumer responses to, globalisation in fashion marketing.

  • Mass customisation and other technologies applied in fashion and textile distribution.

  • Developments in digital marketing and the online fashion and textile market.

  • Corporate and consumer responses to recession in the fashion and textile market.

  • Innovations in fashion branding and promotion including celebrity collaboration and strategic alliances – especially in the luxury, fast- fashion and value sectors.

  • Fashion and textile retail strategies in emerging, mature and saturated markets.

  • Innovations in fashion and textile retailing including pop-up, guerrilla and lifestyle stores.

  • The role of culture and national heritage in international fashion and textile distribution.

  • Management of waste textile products including environmental issues and the second-hand retail market.
