Labour productivity in South Korea rose 13.8 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2006 marking the highest quarterly growth since 2000. The Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry say that industrial output rose 11 percent on-year while labour input fell by 2 percent during April to June. By sector, electronic components and wireless communications manufacturing saw the biggest gain of 32 percent followed by cars and machinery at 8 percent. Unit labour cost, calculated by dividing hourly wages by labour productivity, fell for the second straight quarter.
