Non-paradigm shifts

Of course the alternative to a paradigm shift is continual – definitely “continual’ and not “continuous’ – improvement. This is a much safer, and less explosive strategy. It is easier to control, and easier to maintain. Ideally, one should create a paradigm shift in performance and then use continual improvement to make ongoing marginal, evolutionary gains (and to ensure there is no “backsliding” to the previous situation).
