Waste not ...

Lombard GATX Technology (Lombard) is extending its lifecycle management support services in response to changing PC replacement cycles and the pressure placed on IT departments through new disposal legislation (the WEEE recycling directive, active in the UK from August 2004).

Lombard has restructured its service offering, to integrate outsourcing of PC disposal with its procurement, asset management and leasing packages so that companies can find the most efficient PC length of service to match business needs.

Ian McVicar, managing director, Lombard GATX Technology, said: “There is no preferred approach to PC lifecycle management. Every situation is different, which means companies need specialist support. Some clients are now cutting PC cycles to just two years, while others are extending them to five or more. The WEEE directive is just the beginning, with a raft of environmentally friendly legislation coming from the EU over the next few years. Many IT organisations would prefer to pass the risk and responsibility associated with WEEE directive compliance and data security to expert risk management organisations like ourselves. Outsourcing of technology disposal enables this.”
