The UK Royal Mail collects, processes and delivers more than 82 million items to more than 27 million addresses every day. The organisation – facing increasing competition – recently identified a need to drive down its running costs, and improve efficiency within its mail sorting and delivery business. To print 1.5 billion labels a year it chose a partner and a printer. The Barcode Warehouse offered a solution with the Toshiba TEC range of thermal barcode and labelling printers.

Trials of the printers were carried out, with the printers running 250,000 tickets continuously for 3.5 days.

The Barcode Warehouse produces and supplies 750 million labels a year to Royal Mail, and has more than 2,500 barcoding systems operating within different areas of the Royal Mail Group. These include International, Priority Services, Parcelforce and Streamline.
