Argumentative
Recent corporate scandals have focused on the roles of boards and the ability of non-executives to maintain their role of challenging the policies of practices of the executive directors. However, my experience suggests that even amongst the executives, debate, discussion and challenge is often frowned upon. Collective responsibility for decisions is essential but before any important decision is taken, executives should not be afraid to be robust in their discussions. Any corporate president who stifles such robust debate is too insecure to remain in office!
