An examination of festival attendees’ behaviour using SEM

Article Type: Practitioner perspective on some of the papers in this issue From: International Journal of Event and Festival Management, Volume 1, Issue 1

While I appreciate that this paper is merely an abstract for a practitioner as it currently stands this paper poses more questions than answers and given its academic nature is not as accessible. Clarification of what defines a “small” versus “large” festival would have been helpful. The central hypothesis relating to perceptions of value on attendees satisfaction intuitively seems equally valid for “large” as it does for “small” festivals. Further definition in this paper of what characterises “the success” of a festival would also be of value.

As stated in the conclusions, there is a need for wider exploration of the influence on attendees or audience of additional decision making or quality variables, such analysis would seem a logical extension of this piece of work. An outline indication in the paper of what these other audience influencing variables might be would also have been of value. Consequently, the central hypothesis while of interest did not fully realise the promise of real insights into triggers or factors impacting on festival attendees or audience behaviours.
