"Fibrous Assemblies at the Design and Engineering Interface" Progress of INTEDEC 2003: An International Textile Design and Engineering Conference, Edinburgh, UK 22-24 September 2003

Introduction

At the beginning of the year, I reported on the organisation of an International Textile and Engineering Conference based on the interface between textile design and engineering. At the first announcement, I was a little anxious for not being able to anticipate the response of the International community to this challenge, since to my knowledge, the idea to bring the two fragmented areas together was new.

Conference progress

I can now report with confidence that the conference is to be extremely successful since we have already been oversubscribed for paper presentations, so that it has now been decided to arrange parallel sessions on the second day of the conference to cope with the high demand.

I append below a provisional conference programme which contains most of the accepted paper presentations and their respective sessions so far. Although the programme is provisional and its content is expected to change, it signifies the agreement of the research community to the theme and their support to its aim which is to bring designers and engineers together.

Although the deadline for the receipt of complete papers is passed, the organisers can still accommodate high quality papers that may arrive late.

Please disseminate the programme and have a look at the conference Web site for more details: www.Intedec.com or write to Dr Sharon Lam, School of Textiles and Design, Heriot-Watt University, Scottish Borders Campus, Netherdale, Galashiels TD1 3HF, UK. Tel: +44(0) 1896 892133; Fax: +44(0) 1896 758965 or E-mail: INTEDEC@hw.ac.uk

A book of conference proceedings will be published. I look forward to seeing you in Edinburgh this September.
