International Drought Symposium

24-26 March, Riverside, CA, USA

The aim of the event, organised by the Water Science and Policy Center at the University of California, Riverside, is to compare drought impacts and mitigation under various physical, economic and institutional situations in these states and to allow “out of the box” approaches to be considered and adopted by the various countries. The symposium will bring senior disciplinary experts from Spain, Australia, South Africa, Mexico and California – all drought-prone areas – to sit together and share scientific and policy aspects related to drought and its mitigation in each of these areas. The disciplines to be included are: economics, agronomy, hydrology, ecology, technology, policy and water management.

6th EE & RES Congress and Exhibition for South East Europe. International Congress and Exhibition on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources

14-16 April, Sofia, Bulgaria

The role of regions and local actors is important in realizing the huge potential for energy efficiency that we know, exists. The regions, its actors and many networks have a role to play in bringing programmes and initiatives to fruition that make changes in behaviour – both in terms of how we use energy and how we purchase and make decisions that will have an impact on our future energy use. This congress aims at presenting on the south east European market new technology, equipment and services and attracting the public attention to the practical benefits from renewables and the different means to save energy. It will be of interest not only for demonstrating the potential benefits of a sustainable energy policy at regional level, but also to learn from one another about how best to exploit this potential.

Design and Nature 2010: Fifth International Conference on Comparing Design in Nature with Science and Engineering

28-30 June, Pisa, Italy

Throughout history, many leading thinkers have been inspired by the parallels between nature and human design, in mathematics, engineering and other areas. Recently, the huge increase in biological knowledge, developments in design engineering systems, together with the growth in computer power and the developments in simulation modelling, have all made more comprehensive studies of nature possible. These elements form the basis of this conference.

The Design and Nature Conference which is to be reconvened in 2010 following the success of previous meetings, the first of which was held in Udine, Italy in 2002, followed by the second in Rhodes, Greece in 2004, a third in the New Forest, UK, in 2006 and the last one in the Algarve, Portugal in 2008.
