EIB announces new fund to finance carbon projects

Article Type: News From: International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management, Volume 1, Issue 4

The European Investment Bank and German investment bank Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau have announced their intention to set up a new global carbon fund for CO2-reduction projects. The fund is intended to help small- and medium-sized companies (SMEs) and public institutions reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and will apply to projects launched during and beyond the current Kyoto period. The amount of funding provided will be around €100 million.

The bank runs five other carbon funds, most of them launched in 2007. This includes a fund to support CO2 reduction projects after the Kyoto protocol expires in 2012 and another one primarily aimed at supporting SMEs. The plans are described at: www.eib.org/about/press/2009/2009-066-eib-and-kfw-to-continue-support-for-european-economy.htm
