Airline pilot on board to raise safety awareness

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 44, Issue 1

DuPont Sustainable Solutions has teamed up with celebrated airline pilot Captain Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger to help to increase safety awareness and prepare employees to expect the unexpected.

Captain Sullenberger piloted the US Airways Airbus 320 that ditched in the Hudson River in New York after a bird strike disabled its two engines shortly after take-off.

“Captain Sullenberger not only shares DuPont’s passion for safety but he also has shown the world in an unforgettable way how lifelong safety discipline and expertise can save lives,” said DuPont Sustainable Solutions president James R. Weigand. “We are very pleased to have this opportunity to work with him.”

The events of Flight 1549 will be analyzed in the new offering and show how life lessons, leadership and a commitment to safety helped Captain Sullenberger and his crew to respond effectively and save the lives of all 155 people aboard the plane.

“DuPont’s commitment to protecting people is a model for other corporations to emulate, and I am proud to be a part of that process,” said Captain Sullenberger.

DuPont Sustainable Solutions, one of 13 DuPont business groups, is an integrated, global-services and technology-delivery business. Its offerings comprise safety resources, sustainable operations, training solutions and clean technologies.
