Nationwide builds managers’ influencing skills

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 43, Issue 3

Nationwide Building Society has delivered a new influencing-skills programme for its middle managers. The programme formed part of a broader cultural-change programme, concentrating on enabling managers to become influential leaders and to operate more effectively across their teams, their wider peer group and the broader senior-management team.

The two-day programme, attended by managers from various functions across the company’s different business units, focused on sharpening core influencing skills and providing a range of effective influencing strategies. It gave managers skills, tools and mindsets for improving their personal style and adapting individual preferences for effective influencing.

Early indications are that those who attended the workshops are now more self-assured managers. Feedback suggests this has directly led to improvements in team-leadership capability, with middle managers being able to identify the block with some relationships and bring about improvements.

The programme was devised by Full Potential Group, a UK leadership, team and high-performance-culture specialist.
